How to Buy from Auctions: A simple step-by-step guide to getting your car.

Deposit to Activate Bidding

To begin bidding

  • For vehicles priced below 1,000,000 JPY, the deposit is 150,000 JPY.
  • For vehicles priced above 1,000,000 JPY, the deposit is 15% of the vehicle price.

A refundable deposit is required. This deposit will be applied toward your final invoice if you successfully purchase a vehicle. If no purchase is made, the deposit can be fully refunded upon request.

Use our platform to explore over 150 auction houses across Japan. Auctions run Monday to Saturday and update daily.

Once you have shortlisted cars, our team will translate the Japanese inspection sheets into English, giving you detailed insight into:

  • Exterior and interior condition
  • Mechanical state
  • Auction grades and notes

Request Additional Inspection (Optional)

Still unsure about a car's condition?

For ¥5,000, we can arrange a physical inspection at major auction houses.

Step 6

Place Your Bid

Place your bid Bidding confirmation

Confirm your bid price with us at least 2 hours before the auction. We will place your bid and proceed only after receiving your confirmation.

  • If you win, you pay only the winning bid price (even if it is lower than your maximum bid) plus the agreed CIF (or FOB) cost to your destination port.
  • If you do not win, we simply move on to the next car — no extra charges.
Step 7

Win and Confirm Purchase

If your bid is successful:

  • Far East Exports pays the auction house on your behalf
  • We issue an invoice for the balance, payable within 3 working days

Late payment may incur a ¥10,000 weekly penalty and account lock after grace period.

Documentation & Export Process

Export procedures — Once payment is confirmed, we handle all export procedures, including:

  • De-registration
  • Export certificate
  • Marine insurance (upon request)
  • Inland transportation to port
  • Customs clearance in Japan and others

Vehicle Pickup

Arrives at your port — Once your vehicle arrives at your port, you (or your customs broker) will:

  • Clear the vehicle with local customs
  • Pay applicable import duties/taxes
  • Pick up your vehicle and enjoy your new ride!
